Application
Seawater piping and equipment: Nickel-copper alloys are extensively used in seawater piping systems, pumps, valves, and other equipment due to their exceptional resistance to seawater corrosion.
Boat and ship hulls: These are used in constructing boat and ship hulls, propeller shafts, and other components exposed to seawater.
Desalination plants: Their resistance to seawater corrosion and biofouling makes them suitable for components in desalination plants.
Handling corrosive fluids: Employed equipment and piping systems that handle aggressive chemicals, such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and various salt solutions.
Heat exchangers: Their corrosion resistance and good thermal conductivity make them suitable for heat exchangers operating in harsh environments.
Offshore platforms and pipelines: Their resistance to seawater corrosion and sour gas (containing hydrogen sulfide) makes them suitable for offshore structures and pipelines.
Downhole equipment: Used in specific downhole applications requiring resistance to corrosion and stress cracking.
Valve and pump components: Their corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties make them suitable for valve and pump components in various industries.
Musical instruments: Nickel-copper alloys, particularly strings, are used in the construction of musical instruments, which are renowned for their unique tonal qualities.
Eyeglass frames: Their corrosion resistance and attractive appearance make them suitable for eyeglass frames.
Specific Alloy Grades and Applications
Monel 400 (UNS N04400): The most common nickel-copper alloy, it is known for its excellent resistance to seawater corrosion and a wide range of chemicals. It is used extensively in marine, chemical processing, and oil and gas applications.
Monel K-500 (UNS N05500): Similar to Monel 400 but with added aluminum and titanium, providing increased strength and hardness. It is used in applications requiring higher mechanical properties, such as pump shafts and valve components.
