Key Features

High Strength and Fatigue Resistance: Ti-6242 boasts exceptional strength and fatigue resistance, even at elevated temperatures, making it ideal for applications requiring structural integrity and durability under demanding conditions.
Good Fracture Toughness: It exhibits good fracture toughness, resisting crack propagation and sudden failures, ensuring reliability in critical applications.
Creep Resistance: The alloy offers excellent creep resistance, maintaining its dimensional stability under sustained loads at high temperatures.
Corrosion Resistance: It is well-resistant to corrosion in various environments, including seawater, chloride solutions, and some acids.
Heat Treatability: Ti-6242 can be heat treated to enhance its strength and other mechanical properties further.

Packing

Packed in plywood crates or on pallets.

Applications

Aircraft structural components: These are used for wing spars, fuselage frames, landing gear parts, and other critical components requiring a high strength-to-weight ratio, fatigue resistance, and resistance to crack propagation.
Jet engine components: These are employed for compressor discs, blades, shafts, and other engine parts exposed to high temperatures and stresses.
Military aircraft and vehicles: Utilized in structural components and armor for military aircraft, tanks, and other vehicles due to its high strength and ballistic resistance.
Weapon Systems: Employed in various weapon system components requiring high strength and reliability.
High-temperature and high-pressure equipment: This type of equipment is used for reactors, pressure vessels, and other equipment exposed to corrosive chemicals and extreme conditions.
Subsea equipment: Employed in components for subsea oil and gas exploration and production equipment due to its strength and corrosion resistance in seawater environments.
High-performance implants: These are utilized in specialized medical implants requiring high strength and fatigue resistance, such as those used in spinal surgery or joint replacements for active individuals.

Specific applications of AMS 4975

Aircraft landing gear components: Ti-6242 bars are machined into landing gear parts that must withstand high-impact loads and cyclic stresses during takeoff and landing.
Jet engine compressor discs: Ti-6242 rings are forged and machined into compressor discs that operate at high speeds and temperatures within the jet engine.
Subsea wellhead components: Ti-6242 bars manufacture components for subsea wellheads that resist corrosion and maintain structural integrity in deep-sea environments.
